Venture launched by Israeli high-tech companies will create 12,000 high-tech jobs for Israel’s Arabs

Cisco Systems Inc. CEO and Chairman John Chambers made the announcement at the Israeli Presidential Conference. The campaign will help create 12,000 high-tech jobs in Israel’s Arab sector over the next four years.

Arabs make up roughly one-fifth of Israel’s 8 million citizens. While they enjoy full citizenship rights, they are generally poorer and less educated.

“If we can move to 12,000 (new employees) within four years, it would be an indication of what’s possible.”

Cisco is the program’s main source of funds. Other participants include Google Inc., Intel Corp., IBM Corp. and Check Point Software Technologies Ltd.

“No government or policy could do it. You need the companies,” said Israeli President Shimon Peres.

Several new companies joined Maantech, including Israeli telecommunications giant Bezeq, Cadence Design Systems Inc. and OnTarget Communications, according to a statement from the Israeli president’s office.

New Google study finds: Israeli-Arabs blog more than any other population in Israel.

A new study funded by Google Israel and carried out by academics at the School of Media Studies at the College of Management Academic Studies (COMAS) in Rishon Lezion, the study entitled ‘Israel in the Digital Age 2012,’ questioned more than 1200 respondents ranging in age from 12 upwards and from all different sectors of the population.

The study found that Israeli-Arabs blog more than any other group in Israel. The study noted that Arabs in Israel are much more active in blogging compared to the Jewish population. Roughly one-third (28.3%) of Arab speakers who reported to writing a blog said they updated it daily, while only 12% of Jewish bloggers said the same. The study also found that 37% of the Arab population that reads blogs does so everyday, while only 24% of the Jewish population reading blogs does so with such frequency.

Dr. Yuval Dror, Head of the Digital Communication track of the School of Media Studies at COMAS, who led the study, said “The digital age is rapidly changing Israeli society, but in recent years the media and public discourse has lacked reliable, open and comprehensive data which can form the basis for the determining policy and decision marking in the public and private sectors alike.”

Israeli Arab to form new pro-Israel party.

Founder of new political party says other Arab parties serve only ideology and not the real interests of the 1.5 million Israeli-Arabs.

With over 22% of Israel’s population identifying themselves as Israeli-Arab, and as their birthrate, economic prosperity, and varying interests are increasing, the need for new parliamentary representation are forming in the Israeli political sphere. The Arab vote in Israel tended to be spilt amongst three Israeli-Arab political parties , but now many are calling for the need to develop a new party that focuses on the real needs of Israeli-Arabs versus the political ideology which has previously focused on Palestinians living outside of Israel.

The newly formed Israeli-Arab Nationalist Party, will run in Israel’s next general election. Founded by Sarhan Bader, a veteran in politics from Israel’s Nahaf Village, Bader has this to say to the Jerusalem Post:

“To serve the Arabs properly, it’s important to work together with the ruling party in the [Israeli] coalition. The Druze MKs who are part of the coalition [in Likud, Yisrael Beytenu and the Independence Party] help their constituency a hundred times more than every Arab MK in the opposition. I will dramatically improve things for the Arab sector….Most Arab citizens are in favor of coexisting, cooperating and living in harmony with Jewish Israelis…the other Arab parties place too much emphasis on the Palestinians and external Arabs. But it’s more important to serve the Arabs inside Israel who want to live here in peace with our Jewish cousins”.

Gay Palestinians travel each month from West Bank into Israel so they can freely participate in Gay dance club

Inside the Secret Life of Gay Palestinians hiding in Tel Aviv.

“Now hundreds show up each month. People travel from all over: Ramallah, East Jerusalem, small Arab villages in northern Israel, Yafo, everywhere”

Interesting to see how Gay Palestinians (both outside Israel and within) travel each month to Tel Aviv under the risk of being caught by their family and neighbors, so that at least one night a month they are free to openly express who they are. Arab culture is one of the strictest anti-homosexual culture, If someone is found to be gay, they run the greatest risk of being killed.

And now to happy news…Israel surpasses US, Europe in bottle recycling

http://www.jpost.com/HttpHandlers/ShowImage.ashx?ID=166240

Israel collected about 77% of all beverage containers in 2011, exceed the government’s target of 73%

Israelis recycled 50 percent of the country’s plastic bottles in 2011, overtaking Europe and the United States, with figures of 48% and 29%, respectively, the ELA recycling company reported. In total, Israel collected about 77% of all beverage containers – plastic and glass – requiring deposit in 2011, exceeding the government’s target of 73% and amounting to about 600 million beverage containers, ELA said. Families recycled about 41% of their total beverage containers in the same year, also surpassing a target of 35% and equivalent to about 300 million beverage containers. This week, the four billionth such beverage container was deposited.

Now that’s pretty impressive wouldn’t you say? With recycling and taking care of the limited resources we have, everyone wins. Not only are we saving our natural resources and decreasing pollution, but I’m worried that when raw materials because scarce, people will start fighting over them…so why not prevent that?

Meet 14 terrorists who will never fire another rocket in their lives

  • Over the past 6 days, Israel has been hit by over 160 rockets coming from the Gaza Strip. Terrorist groups Hamas and the Islamic Jihad have no regard for human life, they shoot rockets at will, hoping to cause as much damage as possible. For the past 6 days, over 1,000,000 Israeli families have been living in bomb shelters, along with similar number of Gazan families, who have also been dragged into danger and conflict due to the hands of these terrorists.
  • Luckily enough, Israel has permanently insured that these terrorists below will never shoot another rocket or bring their community into unnecessary war. The material below comes from the Islamic Jihad’s own website, where they posted  their pics and bios with what seems to be “martyr cards.” Pretty disgusting.

Thanks to Challah Hu Akbar for the info.
Can’t really engage in blogging for peace and understanding when rockets are continuously fired from Gaza into Israel. Terrorists & terrorism don’t resolve any problems.

I heard the sound of the rockets coming over into Israel today.

Over 130 rockets launched from Gaza into Israel for the past 2 days.

Unfortunately, I live in a war zone.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/s720x720/422381_10150571872067478_222260377477_8873471_736255158_n.jpg

This cool organization, ARTS! By the People, is bringing two of their teaching artists, Gus Gauntlett and Bisco Smith to Jerusalem to work with 25 Israeli Arab and Israeli Jewish teenagers at the Hand in Hand School. “The workshop will focus on some of Hip Hop’s prime elements for the purpose of uniting people, of all backgrounds, through creative expression and performance. With the power of the process as our main emphasis, we aim to form friendships between the students and break cultural and economic barriers, naturally, through the language and arts of Hip Hop culture.”

Here are the program outline and goals:

·      Instill self-confidence in program participants

·      Expose world communities to Hip Hop and emerging art forms

·      Strive to overcome cultural and economic barriers

·      Foster creative bonds between students

·      Promote the benefits of creative expression

·      Create international relationships between young people
